Kerala has officially announced its decision of joining the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses. As per the Government Order dated 21.11.2012 issued by the Health & Family Welfare Department, admissions to MBBS and BDS Courses in the Medical Colleges/Institutions in Kerala wil lbe on the basis of the NEET UG 2013.
However, the allotments and admissions in the state quota seats will be done according to prevailing state level rules. The CEE will also issue the Prospectus for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses in consultation with the Director of Medical Education and approval of the Government.
All those seeking admission for MBBS/BDS in Kerala, should also apply for allotment/ admission to the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Kerala. They will have to indicate their application number and other details related to NEET-UG 2013, in their Application to be submitted to the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Kerala.
Only one application has to be submitted to the CEE for admission to the Common Entrance Examination being conducted by the CEE, Kerala and for admission/allotment to MBBS/BDS courses in Kerala.

The allotment to MBBS/BDS Courses in Kerala, will be undertaken by the CEE through a separate allotment process, based on the rank list of NEET-UG 2013. Those included in the Rank list of NEET UG 2013, for the State of Kerala, furnished by the CBSE, will only be considered for allotment to MBBS/BDS Courses in Kerala. Such candidates will have to prove their nativity status as per the Prospectus to be issued for KEAM 2013.
Those claiming the ‘Keralite’ nativity status will have to furnish the Community, income and nativity certificates in original, along with the application for KEAM 2013 for admission to MBBS/BDS courses for claiming community status. Such candidates will also have to give a copy of the ‘Confirmation Page’ to be generated based on the application to be submitted to CBSE for NEET UG 2013, to the CEE while applying for admission/allotment to MBBS/BDS Courses in Kerala.

In addition to English and Hindi as the medium of language for NEET UG Examination, The CBSE has included an additional facility for candidates from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and West Bengal as they will be able to appear in the exam in their respective mother tongues.

Also according to CBSE, Maharashtra students would have a choice of six cities to appear in NEET – Nagpur, Aurangabad, Nashik, Pune, Thane and Mumbai.

The West Bengal is ready to participate in NEET-UG 2013 which will be held on 5th May 2013 and it will be conducted by CBSE.

The question papers  is to be set in Bengali as well.CBSE has agreed to add Bengali as a medium of instruction besides English & Hindi.  The Medical Council of India (MCI) last year announced that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) will have to be taken only in English or Hindi.

The NEET-UG is a medical entrance exam for MBBS & BDS courses, students through NEET will have access to 15% medical seats at all India level and 85% seats in their respective states.

According to MCI,NEET will reduce the burden on students as they need to appear for 3 or less medical entrance exams and will also help them  financially  as the cost of filling separate forms will be reduced.

In a letter written to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on September 30 ,Tamil Nadu Chief Minister  Ms. Jayalalithaa said  “We  are surprised and distressed by this unilateral decision of the Government of India which has been taken without taking to account our protest and despite the stay against the Common Entrance  Test obtained in the Madras High Court”.

She has expressed distress over the Centre’s decision as it would come in the way of implementing the State’s reservation policy.

Reiterating her demand to exempt TN from the NEET, Jayalalithaa urged the PM to allow the State  to continue with its existing system as the state had reserved 50% of their post graduate medical seats for graduates pursuing their medical courses who had completed 3 years of practice in rural areas.

“Despite TN’s protest, the Centre has notified the National Board of Examination for conducting the NEET for PG courses and has gone ahead issuing  a public notice for admission to MD/MS/PG Diploma Courses for the 2013 session,” she said.
